Work Experience with Ila Tillett

At Columns, we thrive on the fresh perspectives and innovative ideas that new team members bring. Recently, we had the pleasure of welcoming Ila Tillett, who joined us for her work experience. We took some time to chat with Ila about her background, aspirations, and her time with us at Columns.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Ila, and I am 17 years old. I live in a town just outside London called Bishop Stortford. I work two jobs as a waitress in a restaurant and a pub, and occasionally at events. I attend college in Cambridge, where I study media and psychology. I really enjoy these subjects as they have opened my eyes to potential future career paths.

What do you want to be when you grow up?

When I leave college, I hope to take on an apprenticeship in digital marketing or branding. My interest in this field was sparked when I started studying media. Throughout my course, I have realised how much I enjoy it. My dad works in the same industry, which has given me many opportunities to expand my knowledge of digital marketing.

Where is your favourite place to go when you have some time off, and why?

During my time off from college and work, I often visit Newcastle to see a friend. Although it takes a while to get there, I usually make the trip during half terms. On weekends, if I’m not working, I sometimes go into London with friends for a day out, which might include dinner or an activity. I enjoy these outings because they allow me to be independent and have significantly boosted my confidence over the past few years.

What are some things you have learned while spending time with the Columns team?

During my time at Columns, I have learned a lot, from independence skills to understanding how meetings work and experiencing what it’s like to work in an office where everyone is very independent in their roles. I’ve also learned the importance of communication within a team to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Any words of wisdom that you wish to impart on our social followers?

I believe that Columns is a great place to gain experience if you want to explore opportunities in branding and marketing. All the team members are lovely, and I have learned a lot during my time here.
